Lonnie Barkby
BBB Complaint #25096048

"Your threat of a BBB complaint is likewise not helping your case. BBB follows rules, and frankly, given the tenor of your email, I'd rather deal with the case on their platform. This will, of course, additionally delay your resolution."

Tom Irwin, VP Product Development, Pulsar Products Inc.
July 23, 2026

This reply followed Lonnie's July 22 escalation after 22 days without a response to the requested parts list. The preceding email asked Pulsar to confirm shipment and stated that a BBB complaint would follow if no confirmation arrived by Friday.

Summary

Lonnie Barkby purchased one Pulsar PGDA70BiSCO generator from Amazon on April 10, 2025, for $1,099.57. Pulsar issued a warranty replacement in July 2025 after Lonnie reported that the first unit stopped starting before it had used one tank of fuel.

On May 10, 2026, Lonnie reported several problems with the replacement generator. A May 17 test record lists 203.2 total hours. Pulsar later said it required a qualified repair-facility inspection before authorizing warranty parts. The dispute moved to BBB on July 27 and remained under BBB review when last checked on August 18.

Pulsar Products Inc. public BBB profile

No public page for complaint #25096048 was found on BBB when checked on August 18, 2026. BBB says the complaint text it displays might not represent every complaint filed. The public list therefore cannot establish how many complaints have been filed against Pulsar.

I have not found a BBB source explaining why this complaint is absent from the public list or stating that open complaints are withheld. The ongoing review may be one explanation, but that is an inference, not a statement from BBB. The reason remains unknown.

To keep a public copy of this case available, I created this website and linked it to the supporting records. My opinions appear in the complaint itself. This site is designed to connect you with the evidence so you can form your own opinion of Pulsar Products and its vice president of product development, Tom Irwin.

July 28 business response through BBB

Public transcript with contact details removed.

Pulsar Products appreciates the opportunity to respond to this complaint. We regret the customer's frustration and remain committed to honoring the applicable warranty in accordance with its terms.

The customer states that the generator is experiencing multiple failures, including the electric start system, charging system, recoil starter, housing damage, and other components. Based on the number and nature of the reported issues, it is not possible to accurately determine which parts have actually failed without a qualified inspection.

Under Pulsar's limited warranty, a parts warranty does not mean replacement parts are provided solely upon request or based on a customer-generated parts list. The warranty covers replacement of parts that are determined to have failed due to defects in materials or workmanship. Before warranty parts can be authorized, we require an inspection report from a qualified repair facility identifying the defective components and the recommended repair plan. This allows us to provide the correct warranty parts.

We appreciate the time spent preparing that document. However, the list identifies requested parts rather than confirming which components have actually failed and therefore cannot be used by itself as the basis for a warranty parts order.

One of our senior Technical Support representatives, Josh, has reopened communication with the customer and is available to continue assisting with the warranty claim. Once we receive the repair shop's inspection report specifying the defective components and recommended repairs, we will promptly review it and provide the appropriate warranty parts in accordance with the warranty terms.

We encourage the customer to reply directly to Josh's most recent email so we can continue working toward a resolution as quickly as possible. We remain committed to resolving this warranty claim.

August 5 business response through BBB

Public transcript with contact details removed.

Pulsar Products appreciates the customer's additional comments and the opportunity to clarify our warranty process.

We understand the customer's frustration. However, the purpose of that exercise was to identify the correct part numbers after the failed components had been diagnosed, not to replace the diagnostic process itself. While the customer has provided a detailed parts list and supporting observations, the list does not constitute a repair diagnosis by a qualified repair facility.

Because this generator has multiple reported failures affecting several different systems, including the electric start, charging system, control panel, housing, and recoil assembly, we cannot determine which components require replacement based solely on the reported symptoms. Supplying parts without first confirming the root cause risks sending incorrect parts and may not resolve the underlying issue.

Once that inspection report is received, Pulsar will promptly review it and provide the appropriate warranty parts in accordance with the terms of the limited warranty.

  1. The customer may continue working directly with our Technical Support representative, Josh, who has been assigned to assist with this case.
  2. Once the customer replies to Josh's July 23 email, we will work with him to identify an appropriate repair facility in his area.
  3. Warranty coverage, including any applicable labor coverage, will be determined in accordance with the terms of the limited warranty after the inspection has identified the warrantable defect or defects.
  4. Transportation arrangements, if applicable, can also be discussed once a repair facility has been identified.
  5. We appreciate the effort the customer invested in identifying part numbers. That information remains helpful for ordering purposes after the defective components have been confirmed through inspection. It was not intended to replace the inspection required under our warranty process.
  6. We understand the customer's concerns and appreciate his cooperation throughout this process. Our goal remains to repair the generator correctly by ensuring that the proper defective components are identified before warranty parts are issued.

Pulsar remains committed to resolving this warranty claim. We respectfully ask the customer to respond to Josh's email so we can coordinate the inspection and continue moving the claim toward resolution as quickly as possible.
